A GROUP of six mechanical engineering students in Andhra Pradesh have successfully converted a traditional fuel-driven car into to an air-car which runs only on pure air. The students from Christu Jyoti Institute of Technology and Sciences at Jangaon in Warangal district, have successfully demonstrated the new technology which uses the principles of air pressure. N Joy Kumar, the leader of the group said that they converted an existing diesel/petrol run car in to an “air-Car”.
“The principle in this technology is that it sends pressurised air into a cylinder which provides the piston movement and runs the motors,” said Joy Kumar, who was led and supervised by Puli Ravi Kumar, an assistant professor at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal. The project was financed by the authorities of CJIT.
“This technology focuses on conversion of air pressure energy into mechanical force,” said Ravi Kumar. The vehicle does not have a radiator as it does not involve any combustion. “It is totally pollution-free and environment-friendly,” said Joy Kumar.
This group of mechanical engineers has already obtained a patent to this technology and they will continue to make improvements on the technology. “We expect to bring out a full-fledged model next year,” Joy Kumar said.
